From a shop table to an industry standard

Puffco was founded in 2013 by Roger Volodarsky, who saw an underserved market: concentrate consumers had no purpose-built hardware. The existing options were either repurposed e-cigarette technology or traditional glass rigs with torches—neither designed specifically for the unique demands of concentrate consumption.

Volodarsky brought together design, engineering, and technology to build hardware that treated concentrates as a first-class category. The early Puffco team was tiny—the entire product department was three people when they developed the original Peak. But what they lacked in headcount, they made up in conviction: concentrates deserved better hardware, and the market would follow the product.

The Puffco Pro launched first and won High Times Vaporizer of the Year in 2015. It was copied almost immediately—a pattern that would repeat with every major Puffco release. But Puffco’s response was never to litigate their way to safety. It was to out-engineer the copies by pushing further into territory no one else was willing to explore.

The Peak and the creation of the smart rig

The original Puffco Peak launched when concentrate sales were not even trending. It was a bet against the market data and a bet on the culture. The Peak combined an electronic heating element, a water filtration glass attachment, and a ceramic bowl into a single integrated system. No torch. No guesswork. Press the button, wait, inhale.

It became the fastest-selling device in the concentrate category and created an entirely new product segment: the smart rig. Before the Peak, the term didn’t exist.

The 3D Chamber: patented engineering

The Peak Pro introduced Puffco’s most significant technical innovation: the patented 3D Chamber. Unlike traditional atomizers that heat from the bottom (burning through concentrate and degrading terpenes), the 3D Chamber embeds heat traces in the ceramic walls, vaporizing from the sides. Innovative sensors provide real-time temperature control—not preset temperatures, but actual live monitoring of the chamber temperature.

This means the device knows what temperature the concentrate is actually at, not just what temperature the coil is set to. The difference is enormous for flavor preservation and consistent dosing. Terpenes and cannabinoids are protected from thermal degradation, delivering cleaner flavor and more efficient extraction.

The 3DXL Chamber extended this technology with a larger capacity and laser-cut perc slots for improved water filtration.

The Puffco ecosystem

Puffco builds ecosystems, not just devices. The Peak Pro connects via Bluetooth to the Puffco Connect app, which allows deep customization of heat profiles, LED lighting, session timing, and temperature curves. The Proxy takes the same core technology into a portable, modular form factor that works with interchangeable glass attachments.

The accessory ecosystem is equally intentional: the Joystick Cap provides directional airflow control, the Power Dock enables wireless Qi charging, and the Travel Pack keeps everything organized. Each accessory solves a specific functional problem rather than existing as merchandise.
