Description
A match strike is a small vessel that holds loose matches and carries its own striking surface, so you can buy matches in bulk and stop keeping tatty cardboard boxes on the table. This one is machined metal rather than ceramic, which means it will survive being knocked off a shelf. The choice here is material and finish: two anodised aluminium colourways, or solid brass that will patina over the years into something darker and warmer.
Why it stands out
The striker is part of the body rather than a glued-on strip, so it does not peel away the way a matchbox side does. Aluminium keeps it light enough to live in a bag; brass has the weight to stay put on a counter and ages into its own finish.
Specifications
- Materials: Anodised aluminium, or solid brass
- Finishes: Forest Green and Gunmetal in aluminium; natural in brass
- Function: Refillable match storage with integrated striking surface
- Refill: Takes standard strike-anywhere or safety matches
What’s included
One match strike vessel in the material and finish you select. Matches are not included.
Compatibility
Works with standard wooden kitchen matches. Long fireplace matches will sit proud of the rim.
Care
Brass will darken with handling – that is expected. Polish it back with a brass cloth if you prefer it bright, or leave it alone. Aluminium wipes clean with a dry cloth.
Good to know
Brass is materially heavier and costs roughly twice the aluminium version. If this is going in a bag rather than on a shelf, take the aluminium.
