Dosing Capsules Explained

Knowledge Base · Pixie’s Pantry

Dosing capsules are small, pre-loadable metal containers that hold a measured amount of material and drop directly into a vaporizer’s heating chamber. They are one of the simplest upgrades that fundamentally improve consistency, cleanliness, and convenience.

How they work

A dosing capsule is typically a small stainless steel or aluminum cup with a mesh lid. You pre-load it with ground material, snap or press the lid closed, and insert it into the device’s oven. The capsule sits in the heating chamber and allows hot air to pass through the mesh, extracting compounds without the material ever directly touching the oven walls.

Why they matter

  • Cleanliness: The material never contacts the oven directly, so the chamber stays clean session after session. This extends the time between deep cleans dramatically.
  • Consistency: Every capsule holds roughly the same amount, which means more repeatable sessions. You learn your dose and can reproduce it.
  • Convenience: Pre-load a magazine of capsules at home. Swap them on the go in seconds. No fumbling with ground material in public or on the move.
  • Efficiency: The mesh lid creates even airflow distribution across the material, improving extraction uniformity compared to loose-packing.

Which devices support capsules?

Storz & Bickel pioneered the dosing capsule system. The Crafty+, Mighty+, Venty, and Volcano Hybrid all use the same 40-capsule ecosystem. Capsules can be purchased individually or in magazine sets that hold 8 pre-loaded capsules for on-the-go use.

Many other premium devices have adopted capsule systems as well. When evaluating a new device, check whether it supports capsule loading—it is a strong indicator of thoughtful engineering.

Material considerations

Capsules should be made from food-safe stainless steel or anodized aluminum. The mesh should be fine enough to prevent particulate draw-through but open enough to allow unrestricted airflow. Pixie’s Pantry verifies capsule material grades as part of the Audit Standard.
